Absolute Magnitude Distribution and Light Curves of Gamma-ray Burst Supernovae
نویسنده
چکیده
Photometry data were collected from the literature and analyzed for supernovae that are thought to have a gamma–ray burst association. There are several gamma–ray bursts afterglow light curves that appear to have a supernova component. For these light curves, the supernova component was extracted and analyzed. A supernova light curve model was used to help determine the peak absolute magnitudes as well as estimates for the kinetic energy, ejected mass and nickel mass in the explosion. The peak absolute magnitudes are, on average, brighter than those of similar supernovae (stripped–envelope supernovae) that do not have a gamma–ray burst association, but this can easily be due to a selection effect. However, the kinetic energies and ejected masses were found to be considerably higher, on average, than those of similar supernovae without a gamma–ray burst association. Lw and Grb 031203 : a Bright Supernova for a Faint Gamma - Ray Burst
Optical and near-infrared observations of the gamma-ray burst GRB031203, at z = 0.1055, are reported. A very faint afterglow is detected superimposed to the host galaxy in our first infrared JHK observations, carried out ∼ 9 hours after the burst. Subsequently, a rebrightening is detected in all bands, peaking in the R band about 18 rest-frame days after the burst. The rebrightening closely res...
متن کاملA Systematic Analysis of Supernova Light in Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows
We systematically reanalyzed all Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) afterglow data published through the end of 2002, in an attempt to detect the predicted supernova light component and to gain statistical insight on its phenomenological properties. We fit the observed photometric light curves as the sum of an afterglow, an underlying host galaxy, and a supernova component. The latter is modeled using publi...
متن کاملThe absolute infrared magnitudes of type Ia supernovae
The absolute luminosities and homogeneity of early-time infrared (IR) light curves of type Ia supernovae are examined. Eight supernovae are considered. These are selected to have accurately known epochs of maximum blue light as well as having reliable distance estimates and/or good light curve coverage. Two approaches to extinction correction are considered. Owing to the low extinction in the I...

We report 139 photometric observations through the B, V, and I filters of the supernova SN 1998bw, an object which is associated with the Gamma-Ray Burst GRB 980425. Detailed light curves of this unique supernova can be compared to theoretical models, so we report here our light curve for 123 days between 27 June 1998 and 28 October 1998. The light curve of SN 1988bw is consistent with those of...
متن کاملLONG -RAY BURSTS AND TYPE Ic CORE-COLLAPSE SUPERNOVAE HAVE SIMILAR LOCATIONS IN HOSTS
When the afterglow fades at the site of a long-duration -ray burst (LGRB), Type Ic supernovae (SNe Ic) are the only type of core-collapse supernova observed. Recent work found that a sample of LGRB in high-redshift galaxies had different environments from a collection of core-collapse environments, which were identified from their colors and light curves. LGRBs were in the brightest regions of ...
